COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY

Computed tomography angiography is a blood vessels examination technique used to take multiple images in various planes and thereafter, by processing with the help of a computer programme, to analyze the condition of blood vessels. During examination the scanning is performed simultaneously with fast injection of a contrast agent into a peripheral vein, so-called ‘bolus injection’. Unlike invasive angiography, where a catheter is inserted into large arteries or veins, computed tomography angiography is low – traumatic, patient-friendly and can be performed in non-hospital settings. This is a great examination technique to screen such patients, who need further operative therapy and, perhaps, more detailed examination using an invasive angiography technique.

CT angiography is intended to examine:

  • Abdominal aorta (to identify stenoses, aneurisms, dissection);
  • Pelvic arteries;
  • Leg arteries;
  • Renal arteries (e.g., for patients with severe arterial hypertension of unknown etiology);
  • Carotid arteries;
  • Brain blood vessels;
  • Trunk veins etc.

A contrast agent is used during examination, which sometimes might cause undesirable developments. This is why it is necessary to examine the condition of the kidneys before examination, to take certain analyses (to identify the level of urea and of creatinine).

We also perform examinations for a fee payable by insurance companies
